AP, Dual Credit, IB, PLTW

Indiana Tech recognizes that students have several opportunities to earn college credit while still in high school. The most common ways to earn credit are through completion of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), dual-credit and approved Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses.

Advanced Placement (AP) credit

Students can earn college credit through the College Board Advancement (AP) Program by completing AP exams each May. College Board determines students’ proficiency using a five-point scale.  Students should request to have your AP scores sent to the Indiana Tech Admissions Office (college code 1323).  If the student has already registered for classes by the time AP credit is received and evaluated, we will assist you in adjusting your class schedule accordingly.

CLEP/DANTES (a.k.a. DSST)

The CLEP and DANTES (a.k.a. DSST) exams allow students to show proficiency in a subject via an exam. Additional information on scheduling and Indiana Tech course equivalencies for the exams can be found here:

Dual-Credit

Students can also earn college credit by completing dual-credit courses while still in high school. Students who have completed dual-credit courses with a C or better are eligible to receive Indiana Tech course credit. An official transcript from the college or university that facilitates the course should be submitted to our admissions office before we can award credit for the course. We will notify you regarding what college credit you have earned. If you have already registered for classes by the time credit is determined, we will assist you in adjusting your class schedule accordingly.

International Baccalaureate (IB) credit

International Baccalaureate classes are often offered at foreign high schools. Students who have successfully completed International Baccalaureate (IB) courses with a minimum grade of 4 or better are potentially eligible to receive Indiana Tech course credit. An official score report must be submitted before a credit evaluation can be administered. We will notify you regarding what college credit you have earned. If you have already registered for classes by the time credit is determined, we will help you adjust your class schedule accordingly.

Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

Students can earn college credit by completing Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses. You can earn credit for EGR 1710 and a $500 scholarship at Indiana Tech if you complete Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) and one of the following courses, both with a C or better:

  • Principles of Engineering (POE)
  • Computer Science Principles (CSP)
  • Digital Electronics (DE)
  • Aerospace Engineering (AE)
  • Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA)
